Mossburn Single Cask Jura 1993 is a single vintage, single cask, third party bottling of Highland Single Malt Whisky. It is part of Mossburn’s Single Cask range, a collection of Single Malt Scotch Whiskies each issuing from a strictly limited and select batch of casks.
Mossburn Distillers & Blenders is a brand new Scotch whisky project owned by Marussia Beverage which is part of the empire controlled by Swedish billionaire Frederik Paulsen. The company is headquartered at Jedburgh in the Scottish Borders on the site of the former Jedforest Hotel. Their new distillery, called Reivers Distillery, will be one of the first new distilleries to be built in the Borders for over 150 years. Mossburn have also established Torabhaig Distillery on the Isle of Skye, which opened in 2017 (the second distillery on Skye after Highland Park). The parent company also own the Kaikyo Distillery in Japan which produces Hatozaki whiskies. Not content with this, they have also created the peaty Caisteal Chamuis whisky range. The first Mossburn bottlings were released in 2017. Building a whisky distillery and waiting for whisky to come online (the spirit has to be aged for at least 3 years before it can even be called whisky) is a long term project. So, in the meantime, Mossburn have started the ball rolling by bottling a small collection of ever-changing single malt whiskies and two permanent blended malts, an Island and Speyside, with bespoke cask bills. There are also some very limited occasional single cask bottlings.
This Isle of Jura Distillery was established in 1810 by the Laird of Jura, Archibald Campbell. Although it is on the Island of Jura in the Inner Hebrides off the West Coast of Scotland it is generally classified as a Highlands Distillery. Today the distillery is run by Whyte & Mackay, which Philippines-based Alliance Global owns.
Mossburn Single Cask Jura 1993 was distilled in April 1993 and bottled as a 28 year old in October 2021.
Bottled, non chill filtered, natural colour at 48.2% ABV.
Only 220 bottles produced.
Mossburn Single Cask Jura 1993 has old malty wood upfront on the nose, followed by linoleum, damp hay and biscuity vanilla. Rich in flavour , a little oily and notes of boiled sweets, toasted hazelnuts and more biscuity malt. Lively finish with some spice and finesse, wearing its age well.
