Description

Caliterra Tributo Malbec is a single vineyard wine made from grapes sourced from vineyards in the Colchagua Valley. The Tributo wine range sits about the Caliterra Reserve ranga.

Caliterra was established in 1996 as a joint venture between the families of Robert Mondavi and Vina Errazuriz. In January 2004 Vina Errazuriz became the sole owner of Caliterra, at the heart of which is the impressive 1000ha Caliterra Estate. The name Caliterra is taken from ‘Calidad’ spanish for quality and ‘Tierra’ – land. The wine-making philosophy of Caliterra is to produce fruit-driven quality wines. Viña Caliterra is located in the heart of Colchagua, a protected valley southeast of Lago Rapel and adjoining the Apalta Valley, 150 meters above sea level. Crucially a large proportion of this estate, and all new plantings, are on prime hillside sites resulting in high quality fruit and complex wines.

The grapes for the Caliterra Tributo Malbec come from specially selected lots from the Caliterra Estate in the Colchagua Valley. The 1,030 hectare property is comprised of 242 hectares under vines: 210 were planted in 1997-1998 and another 32 in 2005. The vineyards are vertically trained and cane-pruned. The deep soils are clay loam (33% clay) and have been drained for proper control of plant vigour.

Caliterra Tributo Malbec is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels.

Tasting Notes

This is a soft and mellow wine with hints of cherry, dark fruits, spice and tobacco. Supply, round and smooth on the palate with a medium length finish.

Food Pairing

Perfect with grilled meats, sausages, lamb chops or mature hard cheese.

It is also a great match for a great match for duck, venison or rich, meaty pasta dishes.
