Chateau Clos Bourbon is located in Paillet, near Cadillac, in the little-known appellation of Cadillac Cotes de Bordeaux. The Cadillac Cotes de Bordeaux appellation was created in 2009 and replaces the old Premières Côtes de Bordeaux appellation. There are some 1100 hectares and 80 wine producers in this appellation.
This Bordeaux wine estate is owned by the Boyer Family. Fourth-generation Catherine Boyer and her husband Thibault have personally lived at the estate since 1994. The family own a small collection of three petites chateaux: this one, Chateau du Cros in Loupiac and Chateau Haut Mayne in Cérons. Chateau du Cros is probably the best known of the three, and are famous for its Loupiac dessert wines as well as being one of the first Bordeaux wine producers to lees age their Sauvignon Blanc in the 1970s.
This 18th-century estate is located 30 km south of Bordeaux on the right bank of the river Garonne. The entire vineyard is surrounded by a medieval stone wall and The vineyard is situated on a mound of reddish clay and limestone soils. The 13 hectares of vines are 26 years old.
Grape Composition: Blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Harvesting and Processing: Grapes undergo pre-fermentation maceration after harvest.
Vinification: Traditional vinification process.
Ageing: Wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, with 30% of the barrels being new.
The nose reveals ripe black fruits like plum and cherry with spicy black pepper, liquorice, and hints of toasty oak, coffee and hints of caramel.
On the palate, it delivers a medium-bodied, juicy profile with soft tannins, red and black fruit flavours, and a touch of bell pepper, finishing with smooth, oak-driven complexity.
Best enjoyed with grilled meats, hard cheeses, or dishes like monkfish in Bordelaise sauce.
