Discover the elegance of fine wine in half bottles with this outstanding Château d’Armailhac 2020 Pauillac (37.5cl). Ideal for smaller gatherings, midweek dinners, or enjoying a premium Grand Cru Classé Bordeaux without opening a full bottle. A Fifth Growth Pauillac Classic

Château d’Armailhac is a classified 5th Growth in the legendary 1855 Bordeaux classification (originally known as Château Mouton d’Armailhacq). Located in the heart of the Pauillac appellation, it forms part of the prestigious Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA portfolio alongside Château Mouton Rothschild and Château Clerc Milon.

History & Terroir

The estate traces its roots back to 1680, with vines planted as early as 1750. Sitting in northern Pauillac adjacent to Mouton Rothschild and Pontet-Canet, the vineyard spans 70 hectares across three distinct gravelly plateaus: Plateau des Levantines et de l’Obélisque, Plateau de Pibran, and Croupe de Béhéré. These deep gravel soils bring classic structure and minerality to the wine.

The estate’s vineyards are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (approx. 55%), Merlot (30%), Cabernet Franc (10%), and Petit Verdot (5%), with an average vine age of around 46 years.

2020 Vintage Blend & Tasting Notes

The 2020 Château d’Armailhac is a blend of 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot, aged in oak barrels (approx. 25–50% new). The vintage delivered exceptional balance thanks to ideal ripening conditions.

Tasting Notes

In the glass, this wine has a deep crimson colour with expressive aromas of blackcurrant, dark cherry, violets, roasted coffee and subtle graphite spice. The palate is rich and structured, offering velvety tannins, cassis, and vibrant freshness on a long, harmonious finish. This claret is approachable now with a short decant, but will evolve beautifully over the next 15 to 20+ years.
