Description

Chateau Lideyre is owned by Vignobles Bardet and is located in located on the right bank of the Dordogne river in the districts of Gardegan and Tourtirac not far from St. Emilion. Philippe Bardet, bought the total estate of 35 hectares in 1979, 3.7 hectares planted with vines. Chateau Lideyre follows the principals of Agriculture Raisonnée which is essentially substainable farming with minimal use of chemicals and pesticides. A lot of work at the vines in a most possible natural way. Only compost is used for fertilisation, no insecticides are used with insect traps being preferred. Philippe Bardet applies the principals and rules of the IOBC (International Organization for Biological Control).

Previously Chateau Lideyre was bottled as a Cotes du Castillon wine, which is part of the Libournais. Since 2009 it has been bottled as Castillon Cotes de Bordeaux, one of four sub-regions of the Cotes de Bordeaux. The other three are Blaye Cotes de Bordeaux, Francs Cotes de Bordeaux and Cadillac Cotes de Bordeaux (from where the fantastic Chateau Clos Bourbon Cuvée La Rose Bourbon comes).

The vineyards at Chateau Lideyre have an average age of 27 years old and they are planted with Merlot (80%) and Cabernet Franc (20%).  The wine-making is traditional in style with vinificaiton in stainless steel and concrete vats, a long fermentation and daily pumping-over. The wine is aged for 12 months in oak barrels, 20% of which are new. Annual production is 24, 000 bottles.

Tasting Notes

Chateau Lideyre is a well-balanced, meaty and supple wine with black berry fruits and blackcurrant aromas intertwined with slight woody notes and mellow tannins.
