Dieter Meier Puro Malbec / Cabernet Sauvignon is an organic red wine from the Lujan de Cuyo wine-growing region and is made at Meier’s Ojo de Agua ranch, which is located some 4 hours drive from Buenos Aires. You may recognise the name Dieter Meier, he is the Swiss-born frontman of electronic music group Yello, who is probably most famous for their song “Oh Yeah” which, most famously, featured in the film Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. As well as a music career, Dieter has also enjoyed a career as an artist and now raises beef and makes wine in Argentina!

The Ojo de Agua estate was purchased in the late 1990s. Dieter Meier’s Puro wines are made from grapes sourced solely from Meier’s own vineyard in Agrelo Alto, Lujan de Cuyo situated at 1000 meters above sea level. The soils here are stony and dry but with good mineral content which has been washed down from the Andes over millions of years. The high altitude and cool nights means that the grapes ripen slowly which allows for full development of ripeness but with a good balance of acidity and expression of pure varietal character. The vineyards are trickle irrigated and grapes are left to fully ripen (there are no problems with fungal infestations due to Mendoza’s very dry climate). These high-quality grapes are then vinified at the state-of-the-art winery. Dieter Meier Puro Malbec / Cabernet Sauvignon is a 55/45 blend and is vinified in stainless steel with no oak ageing to preserve the fruity varietal character in the wine maximum.
