Description

Kendall-Jackson Hawkeye Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon is a premium Californian Cabernet Sauvignon. It is part of Kendall-Jackson’s “Estates Collection” which Celebrates the family’s estate vineyards from some of California’s most prestigious winegrowing regions. This limited-production wine is from the Alexander Valley Californian American Viticultural Area (AVA) in Sonoma County.

Kendall-Jackson was where it all began for Jess Jackson. Jess had initially purchased 80 acres of orchards in Lake County north of Napa Valley in 1974. By 1982 he had set out to make an affordable, but premium Californian wine. The very first vintage of Kendall-Jackson Vinters Reserve Chardonnay won the first ever Platinum Award for an American Chardonnay at The American Wine Competition in 1983.

Today, Kendall-Jackson is owned by Jackson Family Wines (JFW). JFW has a vision to create a global wine company known for its extraordinary premium and luxury wines from many of the greatest wine-growing regions of the world. Indeed, under Barbara’s stewardship, they have since become one of the world’s largest, and high quality, wine companies with interests in California (La Crema, Hartford Court, Camelot Highlands and many more), Chile, Italy, France and South Africa, with their new Capensis project. Each winery has its own winemaker, vineyards, varietal focus and unique style.

The grapes for the Kendall-Jackson Hawkeye Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon are sourced from Sonoma County’s volcanically derived vineyards in Alexander Valley. Hawkeye Mountain is perched high above the valley floor on drastic slopes along the westward face of the Mayacamas Mountains.

The wine is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. The vines are planted on shallow, rocky volcanic brick-red loam soils on steep hillsides, some of which are slightly terraced. The area is characterised by cool mornings that gradually lead to warm nights in this mountain area above the fog. The wine is normally aged for a minimum of 18 months in mostly French oak, a high percentage of which is new each year.

Tasting Notes

Kendall-Jackson Hawkeye Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon has intriguing aromas of pencil lead, cedar, clove and mountain sage on the nose. On the palate, flavours of deep black cherry, cassis, and red currant are beautifully intertwined with graceful mineral notes. Artfully extracted, it displays an elegant muscularity, featuring soft tannins that enhance its sophisticated profile. Well-balanced and long finish.
