Quinta da Fonte Souto Florão Red is a vibrant Portuguese red wine from the Symington Family’s acclaimed Quinta da Fonte Souto estate in the Alentejo. Crafted to showcase the estate’s distinctive terroir in a fresh, approachable style, Florão offers all the meticulous vineyard management and winemaking found in the estate’s premium wines, but with a youthful character designed for early drinking.
For generations, the Symington Family has been synonymous with some of Portugal’s finest Port houses, including Graham’s, Dow’s and Warre’s. Quinta da Fonte Souto represents the family’s first vineyard venture outside the Douro Valley, bringing their renowned winemaking expertise to the Alentejo.
Unlike much of the Alentejo, where vineyards experience intense summer heat, Quinta da Fonte Souto sits at over 500 metres above sea level on the slopes of the São Mamede Mountains near Portalegre. This higher elevation creates a cooler microclimate, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly while retaining freshness, natural acidity and aromatic complexity.
The estate covers 207 hectares, with 43 hectares planted to vines on nutrient-poor schist and granite soils. These free-draining soils naturally limit vine vigour, helping to produce wines with concentration, elegance and a true sense of place.
The estate takes its name from the Portuguese word “Souto”, meaning a woodland of chestnut trees. A magnificent chestnut grove remains one of the defining features of the property and reflects the unique landscape surrounding the vineyards.

Deep ruby red in colour, Quinta da Fonte Souto Florão Red opens with expressive aromas of ripe blackberry, black cherry and plum layered with hints of violet, Mediterranean herbs and subtle spice. The palate is smooth and medium-bodied, offering juicy dark berry fruit, soft tannins and refreshing acidity, complemented by delicate notes of vanilla and toasted oak. The finish is fresh, balanced and wonderfully drinkable.
Perfect with grilled meats, roast lamb, Portuguese cuisine, charcuterie, mature cheeses and hearty vegetarian dishes.
