Description

Chateau de Belleverne St Amour Le Cru des Amoureux is a wine made in the most northerly, and one of the smallest Beaujolais Crus, St Amour, which is second only in size to Chénas.

The wine is made by Chateau de Belleverne whose vineyards are situated below the village church of St Amour and are east-facing. It is located in the commune of La Chapelle-de-Guinchay in the Saône-et-Loire department. In 2018 the estate was certified Haute Valeur Environnementale, the highest environmental standard in recognisition of sustainability and their efforts to preserve and increase biodiversity. Chateau de Belleverne is owned by the Bataillard family who also own plots in Chénas, Moulin-à-Vent, and Juliénas as well as the northern reaches of Beaujolais Villages.  As with all Belleverne’s Cru vineyards, vines are at least 50 years of age, with yields below the appellation maximum

The Gamay grapes for this Chateau de Belleverne St Amour Le Cru des Amoureux are grown on the gentle slopes facing east going up to the village church in Saint Amour on siliceous clay soils. After harvest, the grapes are partially de-stemmed before going into the vats, and are then left for 10 days, during which a semi-carbonic maceration takes place before going to press. The final wine is a blend of three separate cuvées each one bringing a specific character to the blend and combining fruit, structure and finesse.

Suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
