Tedeschi Corasco is a red wine from the Veneto region named after the blend of grapes varieties used: COrvina, RAboso and RefoSCO. It is a marriage between Venetian and traditional Veronese drying.
The Tedeschi Family wine business can trace its roots back to 1824 when Nicolo Tedeschi purchased several vineyards (although the family have records of owning vineyards back to 1630). A descendant, Riccardo Tedeschi, purchased vineyards in 1918 which included Monte Fontana and their famous Amarone vineyard, Monte Olmi. Today Tedeschi remains a family business and, through a combination of tradition and innovation, is one of the foremost wineries, and one of the top producers of Amarone and Recioto wines, in the Veneto region. The family manages 74 hectares of vineyards, of which 29 are family-owned. Amarone della Valpolicella is considered to be the most prestigious wine in the Veneto region.
Tedeschi Corasco is one of their few wines not bottled as a Valpolicella. It is bottled as a Trevenezie Rosso IGT, made with grapes from vineyards in the greater Venetian region. As mentioned, the wine is a blend of Corvina, Raboso and Refosco. The Corvina grapes are sourced from Moraine hills in the heart of Valpolicella, the Raboso is grown in Oderzo (Treviso) and the Refosco is grown in Aquileia, both outside of the Valpolicella region. The wine is made in the traditional Veronese style with the drying of the grapes. The grapes are dried for 1 month and lose about 8 to 10% of their weight in this time. During this process, not only are the grapes concentrated, but pre-fermented aromas are developed that are then successively merged with those produced during the refinement period in Slavonian oak barrels, which last for 12 months.
The Tedeschi Corasco blend is usually around 70% Corvina, 25% Refosco and 5% Raboso.
Tedeschi Corasco displays a clear and transparent ruby red colour, offering a complex aromatic profile. Ripe berry fruits such as currants, black cherries, plums, and blackberries mingle with pepper, violet, and hints of spice, leading to a structured palate with a good body. Fine tannins support the wine’s overall balance and contribute to a long, satisfying finish.
The wine pairs perfectly with soups and pasta, white and red meats, and fresh or mid-aged cheeses.
Tedeschi is one of the ten members founding members of the Famiglia dell’Amarone d’Arte (Amarone Families Association) which is now known as Le Famiglia Storiche, a body set up to promote Amarone wines around the world. The members of the association are Allegrini, Begali, Brigaldara, Guerrieri Rizzardi, Masi, Musella, Speri, Tedeschi, Tenuta Sant’Antonio, Tommasi, Torre D’Orti, Venturini and Zenato.
