Description

Tedeschi La Fabriseria Valpolicella DOC Classico Superiore is a blend of late-harvested 40% Corvina, 40% Corvinone, 15% Rondinella and 5% Oseleta grapes.

The Tedeschi Family wine business can trace their roots back to 1824 when Nicolo Tedeschi purchased several vineyards (although the family have records of owning vineyards back to 1630). A descendant, Riccardo Tedeschi, purchased vineyards in 1918 which included Monte Fontana and their famous Amarone vineyard, Monte Olmi. Today Tedeschi remains a family business and, through a combination of tradition and innovation, is one of the foremost wineries, and one of the top producers of Amarone and Recioto wines, in the Veneto region. The family manages 74 hectares of vineyards, of which 29 are family owned. Amarone della Valpolicella is considered to be the most prestigious wine of the Veneto region. Most recently the family have further invested in the new vineyard sites of La Fabriseria in Pontare and Maternigo in the Eastern part of Valpolicella.

The Tedeschi family has endeavored to improve the quality of its wines and to accentuate the relationship between the traditional vines and the region. For this reason, the Tedeschi La Fabriseria Valpolicella DOC Classico Superiore, a wine created with an international style has been completely “reconceptualized” and today is being introduced to the wine drinking audience as a wine that is coherent with the rest of our production yet completely rooted in the Valpolicella region.

The grapes for the Tedeschi La Fabriseria Valpolicella DOC Classico Superiore are sourced from La Fabriseria vineyard with in the Valpolicella Classico Region in the Sant’Ambrogio and Fumane communes. The soils here are of clay and calcareous of moraine origin. The grapes are left to over-ripen on the vine and are harvested late in mid October. The vines have an average age of 15 years and yields are low – the wine yield per hectare is very low and does not exceed that of the Amarone wine. The wine is aged in Slavonian oak barrels for 24 months, prior to 6 months in bottle before release.

Tasting Notes

Tedeschi La Fabriseria Valpolicella DOC Classico Superiore has a clear and transparent ruby red colour. The nose has hints of black currant, sour cherry, cherry, and prune gives freshness to the wine and is combined with hints of minerals and vanilla. The palate is rich, structured and well-balanced. There is a good concentration and tannic structure balance with a lively acidity and by an alcohol content that insures a good aging potential. The retro-olfaction confirms the nose notes. It is an elegant wine with a long finish.
