Tenute Fiorebelli Fiorebella is a red wine from the Veneto wine growing region of Italy. It is bottled as an Indicazione Geografica Protetta (IGP) Rosso del Veneto. It is a blend of 60% Corvina and 40% Merlot. Corvina is one of the most important red grape varieties in the Veneto region and it is used in many Valpolicella and Amarone wines.
Tenuta Fiorebelli is made by by Orion Wines, a company created to bring together interesting wines from small growers and wineries from all over Italy. The company was created by Luca Pomaro and winemaker Alessandro Michelon with the premise of producing wines from indigenous grapes that express the typicity of the particular region where they are grown. The grapes for the Tenuta Fiorebelli are sourced from the heart of Veneto from low low-yielding vineyards near the town of San Pietro in Cariano, in the province of Verona. They have an average age of 30 years old.
The grapes for the Tenute Fiorebelli Fiorebella are hand-harvested in early October. Some of the grapes are dried prior to vinification. Around 60% of the grapes are placed into small, 5kg, wooden crates which are then placed into humidity and temperature controlled lofts, called “fruttaio”, where they are left to dry until December. During this time the grapes will lose some 50% of their weight in water thereby increasing the concentration of the juice the grapes producing more complexity in the finished wine. The 40% of grapes that are not dried are vinified in the traditional method. In December the dried grapes are destemmed and vinified with very slow, temperature controlled fermentation of 30 day. In the February after the harvest, the two wines are blended together and 50% of the blend is aged in second fill French and American oak barriques for 12 months. Finally the unoaked and oaked wine is blended is blended and bottled.
Tenute Fiorebelli Fiorebella has a lovely and intense ruby-red color with a bouquet reminiscent of cherries dried fruit chocolate and prunes. On the palate it is full-bodied soft and round with a pleasant spiciness and an amazingly long and lingering finish.
