Kamptal Wine-Growing Region

The Kamptal wine-growing region is located in northeastern Austria. It is a region that is well-known for producing high-quality white wines, particularly Grüner Veltliner. The region is situated along the Kamp River, which provides a favourable microclimate for grape cultivation. Grüner Veltliner from Kamptal typically produces wines with lively acidity, citrus and stone fruit flavours, and distinct peppery and spicy notes.

What is Grüner Veltliner?

Grüner Veltliner is Austria’s flagship white grape variety, producing wines that range from light and zesty to rich and full-bodied, with a signature peppery bite and notes of citrus, white pepper, and green herbs. It’s incredibly food-friendly and thrives particularly in the Wachau, Kamptal, and Kremstal regions along the Danube.

It is also grown in Slovakia, Hungary, Czechia and, more recently, there have been significant plantings of Gruner Veltliner in New Zealand. It is also used to make Eiswein.
