Description

E. Guigal Saint Joseph Blanc is a French white wine made Saint Joseph Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée (AOC) in the northern Rhône wine region of France. Although Saint Joseph is primarily a red wine appellation making wines from the Syrah grape, there is a small amount of white wine made and up to 10% white grapes (Roussanne or Marsanne) can go into the red wine blends.

Guigal was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal in the village of Ampuis. His son, Marcel, took over from his father in 1961. The Guigal family owns vineyards in Condrieu and in the Côte-Rôtie with illustrious plots in many famous appellations. The wines are made and aged at 12th century Chateau d’Ampuis located in the northern Rhone. In the summer of 2003, in an effort to improve quality and control over all aspects of wine making, Guigal opened an onsite cooperage. The cooperage at the Château d’Ampuis works in partnership with the cooperage at Chagny managed by Seguin Moreau.

The grapes for the E. Guigal Saint Joseph Blanc primarily come from the estates of Jean-Louis Grippat and Vallouit located in the communes of Tournon and Sarras. The vineyards have a vine age of 20 to 50 years old and they have limestone and pebbly sand soils. The wine undergoes temperature controlled fermentation followed by a maturation in a combination of used oak but a significant proportion in stainless steel tanks to retain the freshness and fruit character. Annual production is around 35,000 bottles.

E. Guigal Saint Joseph Blanc is a blend of 95% Marsanne and 5% Roussanne.

Suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
