Feudi di San Gregorio Greco di Tufo DOCG is a white produced in the Italian region of Campania. “DOCG” (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita) signifies the highest level of quality assurance in Italian wine classification.
Feudi di San Gregorio is situated in the heart of southern Italy’s Campania region, about 40 miles east of Naples. The winery is located in Sorbo Serpico, about an hour from Naples and Mount Vesuvius. It’s situated within the province of Avellino, historically known as Irpinia.
Founded in 1986, Feudi di San Gregorio remains an independent family-owned winery managed by the Capaldo family, led by Antonio Capaldo. Since its inception, the winery has gained a reputation as a leading producer in southern Italy. Committed to preserving local winemaking traditions and showcasing the potential of native grapes like Fiano, Greco, Falanghina, and Aglianico, Feudi di San Gregorio’s vineyards are strategically located in prime growing regions of Campania.
In 2021, the winery achieved B Corp certification, demonstrating its dedication to ethical business practices and environmental responsibility. Furthermore, it was awarded the Equalitas certification, recognizing its efforts in biodiversity, carbon reduction, water conservation, and ecological farming.
The 100% Greco Bianco grapes come from vineyards which are predominantly chalky Tufo soil, which imparts wonderful elegance to the resulting wine. Each vineyard is meticulously monitored with a meteorological station, and combined with the advanced technologies of the winery, this ensures that every vintage is produced with the highest possible quality.
The grapes for the Feudi di San Gregorio Greco di Tufo DOCG were carefully harvested at peak ripeness. Fermentation occurred in stainless steel tanks at precisely controlled temperatures between 16°C and 18°C, preserving the unique characteristics of the Greco grape. Subsequently, the wine matured on its lees for four months in stainless steel tanks, adding complexity and enhancing its texture.
Suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
Greco Bianco is a white grape variety believed to have originated in Greece. While it’s permitted in various DOC regions, it’s most renowned for its role in the Greco di Tufo DOCG. This relatively new appellation, elevated to DOCG status in 2003, is located on the western side of the Sabato River near the town of Tufo and on several surrounding hills in the province of Avellino. The region’s distinctive soils are composed of “tuff,” a volcanic rock formed from ash ejected during a volcanic eruption, giving the town its name.
Feudi di San Gregorio Greco di Tufo has a rich and powerfully aromatic nose reminiscent of apricot, peach and tropical melon leads to a creamy palate, harmoniously balanced with a refreshing minerality.
Greco di Tufo pairs well with a variety of dishes. Try with grilled fish, swordfish, calamari or shellfish. It pairs well with white meats, roast chicken rabbit and risotto (seafood or mushroom), grilled asparagus or vegetable tarts.
For the cheeseboard try with creamy cheeses like Burrata, Mozarella or Ricotta Salata.
