Zensa Fiano Puglia IGP is an organic Italian white wine made from Fiano, one of Southern Italy’s oldest indigenous grape varieties, grown here on low-yielding, fully organic vineyards in the Salento region at the heel of the boot. Harvested in the cool of the early morning to preserve freshness and fermented at low temperature in stainless steel, the result is a wine of real precision and aromatic character: pale straw yellow in the glass, with ripe peach and mango on the nose, a distinctive lift of fresh sage and white blossom, and a crisp, mineral finish with a gentle creamy texture from brief lees ageing.
Zensa Fiano is an excellent choice for lovers of Albariño and dry Riesling looking to explore something new and makes a brilliant alternative to Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio for anyone curious about Italy’s extraordinary range of native white varieties. Buy Zensa Fiano at Fareham Wine Cellar for UK delivery or in-store collection from 55 High Street, Fareham.
Minimal intervention during winemaking allows the distinctive characteristics of the Fiano grape to shine through:
The grapes for the Zensa Fiano are sourced from low-yielding, fully organic vineyards in the Salento region of southern Puglia. The vines are trained in the spurred cordon system and are an average of 10 to 15 years old, with a plant density of approximately 5000 plants per hectare.
Zensa Fiano is made by Orion Wines, a company created to bring together interesting wines from small growers and wineries from all over Italy. The company was created by Luca Pomaro and winemaker Alessandro Michelon and Orion Wines retains complete control over the vineyards and growers they work with.
The idea is to produce wines from indigenous grapes that express the typicity of the particular region where they are grown. Zensa means “without” or “to do without” in Italian, and the organic Zensa Fiano is made without pesticides and fertilisers.
Fiano is one of Italy’s oldest and most celebrated white grape varieties, originating in Campania’s Irpinia hills, where it produces the celebrated Fiano di Avellino DOCG. More recently, it has also been found outside Italy, in countries such as Australia and Argentina. It is a grape prized for its naturally aromatic character and ability to retain freshness in warm climates. Fiano produces wines with remarkable balance, combining vibrant fruit with floral aromas and subtle nutty complexity.
Today, Fiano is grown across several regions of southern Italy, where it consistently delivers elegant, food-friendly wines that appeal to both casual wine drinkers and enthusiasts alike.
Zensa Fiano Puglia IGP Tasting Notes
Pale straw yellow in the glass, with a delicate, luminous clarity. The nose is immediately inviting – ripe peach and mango lead, with a distinctive lift of fresh sage and white blossom that gives the wine a fragrant, almost Mediterranean character. On the palate, it is crisp and refreshing, with tropical fruit – guava, pineapple, and a squeeze of citrus – underpinned by a subtle almond nuttiness and a gentle creamy texture from the brief lees ageing. The finish is clean, persistent, and beautifully balanced, with a minerality that lingers long after the glass is empty.
