St. Helena Estate Riesling is made from 100% Riesling grapes sourced from the Canterbury wine-growing region of New Zealand.
Sitting just north of the City of Christchurch in the rich tapestry of New Zealand’s Canterbury wine growing region is the St Helena Wine Estate. Founded in 1978 by the Mundy family, the vineyard takes maximum advantage of the region’s long, warm summers and dry autumns. Canterbury is an ideal climate for producing some of the best premium grapes the Southern Hemisphere has to offer. The result is a stunning selection of wines produced from the winery’s 20 hectare estate. As well as wines from Canterbury, the estate also has contracts with growers in Marlborough for premium quality Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Gewurztraminer grapes. As well as St Helena wines, the company also produce the ENZED and Flying Kiwi brands.
In fact, St Helena is acknowledged as the pioneer in establishing premium Pinot Noir for New Zealand. Owners Robin and Bernice Mundy and award-winning winemaker Alan McCorkindale are passionate in their dedication to producing exceptional fruit and wines from the vineyard and the continuing development of Canterbury as one of New Zealand’s finest wine-producing regions.
Riesling grapes were cool-fermented in stainless steel for four weeks using a specially selected aromatic yeast strain. St. Helena Estate Riesling shows floral notes and citrus fruits on the nose. The wine is well-balanced, shows good palate weight and has length on the finish. Limes, apples and pears combine with a mineral character to produce an elegant and attractive Riesling. A medium / dry style which is perfect with fresh seafood or would be an interesting match for oriental and spicy food.
New Zealand Riesling is renowned for its vibrant, crisp character, often showcasing bright citrus, green apple, and stone fruit flavors with a hallmark zesty acidity. Primarily grown in regions like Marlborough, Nelson, and Central Otago, these wines range from bone-dry to lusciously sweet, reflecting the country’s cool-climate terroir. Their floral aromas and mineral undertones make them versatile for pairing with seafood, spicy dishes, or simply enjoying on their own. New Zealand Rieslings are celebrated for their balance and purity, earning a strong reputation among wine enthusiasts globally.
