Tenuta Argentiera Poggio Ai Ginepri Vermentino is a Tuscan white wine. It is 100% Vermentino.
Tenuta Argentiera is located at the Southern tip of the Castagneto Carducci area in the southern edges of the Bolgheri DOC appellation. They estate is situated on land which was once an Etruscan silver mine. Hence the name, “Argentiera” translates as silver. The estate covers some 153 hectares with 85 hectares of estate vineyards. The owner is Austrian Stanislaus Turnauer. The vneyards were planted under the direction of Pietro Antinori from 1990. Turnauer has assembled a formidable team, including CEO Federico Zileri Dal Verme, general manager Leonardo Raspini (previously of Ornellaia and Cecchi) and locally-born winemaker Nicola Carrera, who has worked at Chateau Palmer and Torbreck.
The estate’s vineyards are located at some of the highest elevations in the and are situated less than 1 kilometre from the Tyrrhenian sea. The vineyard soils are composed of the of the aeolian red sands typical of the Donoratico area, which yield very approachable, delicious wines. The vineyards for this wine re located at 80 to 100 metres above sea level with a west facing aspect.
Tenuta Argentiera Poggio Ai Ginepri Vermentino is 100% Vermentino. The grapes undergo a soft, gentle pressing followed by low temperature fermentation. Aging is on the fine lees exclusively in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, then the wine was assembled and bottled.
Tenuta Argentiera Poggio Ai Ginepri Vermentino as an intense straw yellow colour. On the nose fruit there are hints of pear, banana and apricot. There are also floral nuances wth lavender and white blossom alongside spicy and herbaceous character. The palate is fresh amd balanced with a long fresh finish with good aromatic and mineral character.
Vermentino is a classic match for seafood due to its zesty acidity. Serve it with grilled or roasted fish such as sea bass, halibut, or prawns. You can also pair it with lighter seafood pasta dishes, ceviche, or sushi.
For the cheeseboard, this pairs well with a fresh goats cheese. Enjoy it with a goats cheese salad, goat cheese crostini or simply a cheese board featuring creamy goat cheese.
