Description

Torres San Valentin was created by third-generation Miguel Torres Carbó as a gift to his wife, Margarita Riera, on Saint Valentine’s Day, as a wine to take on summer walks and picnis. It is an off-dry style of white wine with aromatic floral and ripe fruit character.

Familia Torres Wines has been making wine in the ancient Catalán town of Vilafranca del Penedès, southwest of Barcelona, since the 17th Century. It is this tradition combined with innovation, dynamism and commitment to quality that has put Torres firmly on the world map. They remain one of the largest family-owned and run wine companies in the world (there is also Miguel Torres Chile and Marimar Torres in California) and, under the stewardship of fourth-generation Miguel Torres they are committed to sustainable viticulture and green practices. Today Torres not only have vineyards in their home region of Penedes, but all over Spain in regions such as Priorat, Rioja and Rueda. In 2006 Torres was awarded European Winery of the Year in Wine Enthusiast’s Annual Wine Star Awards. The Torres family is also one of the founding members of Primum Familiae Vini.

Torres San Valentin is a blend of 50% Parellada and 50% Garnacha Blanca. The Parellada grape, the best traditional white variety found in Torres’ highest vineyards, produces fruity, aromatic wines with moderate alcoholic strength. After harvest the grapes are vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel and undergo a cool fermentation for 15 days at around 16 to 17C. The off-dry style brings out the floral aromas and ripe fruit character.

In the UK is probably best known as the white wine that everyone drinks when they are on holiday in Tenerife!

An ideal gift for Valentine’s Day.

Suitable for both vegetarians and vegans.

Tasting Notes

Pale yellow. Delightfully floral (wild broom) and fruity (banana, cherimoya). Smooth and light on the palate, with a luscious, jammy finish reminiscent of quince.

Food Pairing

San Valentin is delicious in combination with delicately flavored shellfish, clams, spider crab, and fish in mild sauces. Excellent with cakes and sweets. Serve at 8–10°C.
