Niepoort Rabbit Dry White Port replaces Niepoort Dry White Port and is part of the Niepoortland range of Ports from Dirk Niepoort. The range also includes Niepoort Ruby Dum and Niepoort Tawny Dee Ports.
Niepoort Vinhos maybe small, but it is a very well-regarded Portuguese wine and Port wine producer with a rich history dating back to 1842. The company was founded by Franciscus Marius Niepoort from Holland and has been family-owned for generations, currently led by the visionary Dirk Niepoort, the fifth generation. Niepoort’s three children Daniel, Marco and Ana have all entered the family business. In particular, the eldest son, Daniel, has been involved in winemaking at the company since 2020.
Despite being one of the smallest shippers in the Port trade they are second to none in quality. Already famous for their classic tawny ports, they have now joined the ranks of the great producers of Vintage Port. “Niepoort is to Vintage Port what Krug is to Champagne. They are both small houses in a world dominated by large competitors but they are producing outstanding wines which very few can match.” (James Suckling, Vintage Port). The Ports are made at their Vale de Mendiz winery.
Niepoort Rabbit Dry White Port is a rare style of dry white port, made with lengthy skin maceration and wood ageing. The white grapes undergo long skin maceration, occasionally with foot treading in lagares, with fermentation carrying on to near dryness, before the addition of pure grape brandy. Ageing is carried out in small old oak casks in Niepoort’s cellars in Gaia for at least three and a half years prior to bottling.
Niepoort Dry White is made from a blend of grape varieties – Codega, Rabigato, Viosinho, Arinto and Gouveio.
The Lewis Carroll inspired labels for the Niepoortland Port range are designed by the artist Regina Pessoa.
Niepoort Rabbit Dry White Port is also available in half bottles.
Niepoort Dry White Port has a golden / brown colour with a delightful aroma of nuts and almonds which comes through on the palate with a fresh concentrated spirity finish, from extended ageing in small old oak barrels.
Perfect served chilled as an aperitif or as a long drink with Tonic Water, ice and a twist of lemon.
