Cigar Profile:
The La Gloria Cubana Medaille d’Or No. 4 Cigar is a slender and long cigar, a slim panatela measuring 6 inches long with a ring gauge of 32. Long, slim Cuban cigars are not really in fashion these days, most people preferring a wide ring gauge, but these cigars offer an elegant, chic smoke. The name translates as “The Glory of Cuba”.
The La Gloria Cubana Cigar is a heritage cigar brand with a long history. It was founded in 1885 by the Sociedad Cabañas y Castro, a small Cuban company known for producing high-quality cigars. This premium cigar brand is still relatively unknown, even in the world of cigar-smokers. However, they offer some interesting cigars and are probably best known for their Medaille d’Or range of cigars.
Today, La Gloria Cubana cigars are handcrafted at the historic Partagás factory in Havana, albeit in smaller quantities than more mainstream brands. The brand is also featured in exclusive Edición Regional releases and LCDH (La Casa del Habano) exclusives.
These handmade Cuban cigars are made from filler and binder tobaccos grown on tobacco plantations in the Vuelta Abajo region. These are medium-bodied cigars, well-balanced with good, complex taste and aroma. All the vitolas are “tripa larga, totalmente a mano”, which means that all of the cigar sizes are made with long filler and are totally hand-rolled by skilled Cuban torcedores (cigar rollers).
Alongside the Por Larranaga Montecarlo, this is one of the best slim Cuban cigars. Explore more Cuban cigars at Fareham Wine Cellar.
The La Gloria Cubana Medaille d’Or No. 4 opens with elegant cedar and earthy tobacco aromas complemented by gentle spice. The slim 32 ring gauge allows the wrapper to shine, delivering concentrated flavours of wood, leather, and subtle pepper with a creamy smooth texture. Mid-smoke develops notes of toasted nuts and coffee with hints of natural sweetness and herbal undertones. The final third intensifies slightly with richer tobacco flavours while maintaining its refined, medium-bodied character throughout.
These cigars will pair well with an espresso coffee. For a spirit, try with a lighter, aged Cuban rum like Eminente 7 Year Old or a Cognac like the Maxime Trijol VSOP. Another good drink pairing is a nutty, tawny Port.
