The Punch Triunfos is part of Habanas SA’s range of La Linea Retro cigars and was first launched in early 2024. This is a range of Petit Corona (Mareva) cigars all measuring 5 1/8 long with a 42 ring gauge available in retro-inspired packaging in tins of 5 cigars. The range includes several other cigars including Partagas Capitols, Hoyo de Monterrey Souvenir de Luxe and H Upmann Regalias. This is also the same size as the popular Punch Coronation cigar (which seems to have been out of stock forever!).

One of the oldest cigar brands, Punch Cigars was founded in 1840 by Don Manuel Lopez and is named after the humorous Punch magazine that was very fashionable at the time. Punch cigar boxes are still adorned by images of a contented Mr Punch, the clown who personified the magazine, is still featured in every box, cigar in hand, and surrounded by 19th Century images of cigar making that remain virtually unchanged over a century and a half later.

Initially, Punch cigars gained popularity in the UK market due to their association with the magazine but they have firmly established a reputation for their quality, complexity, and distinctive flavours. Punch cigars moved to the Hoyo de Monterrey factory in 1931 and both cigar brands have been closely associated ever since. Today both brands are made at La Corona factory to this day.

The tobacco in the Punch Triunfos cigars is sourced from the Vuelta Abajo zone and is all “totalmente a mano, tripa larga” – long filler, totally handmade. The brand is known for its medium-bodied, yet complex style.

The Punch Coronation cigar is a good-sized, medium-bodied cigar.
