Description

A selection of some of our favourite Bordeaux red wines for Christmas. Bordeaux rouge is an excellent food wine and it great with all sorts of dishes: turkey with all the trimming, roast beef or lamb and great with a cheese board too.  A quick trip round the communes and would make an excellent gift.

This selection contains 6 x 75cl bottles. Please follow the links below for more information on the individual wines (vintages etc.).

Chateau Lestage, Listrac Medoc Cru Bourgeois

Chateau Lestage has a cedar-y, black fruit nose with some toasty oak notes and spiciness. On the palate is more black fruit (blackberry and blackcurrant) and sweet spices. The palate is ripe, full and round with lots of fruit up front. There are soft and supple tannins and good, pure fruit on the classy and elegant finish.

Chateau Fonreaud, Listrac Medoc Cru Bourgeois

Chateau Fonreaud is an intense dark ruby red colour. The nose has spicy notes, including pepper, liquorice and baking spices. Hints of chocolate and coffee sit alongside an array of dark fruits, damsons, dark cherry and blackcurrant. The palate is shows more dark fruits, blackberry, hints of cedar and tobacco. It is quite savoury in style but with a good purity. This is a fairly robust medium to full bodied red wine with good mouth-feel and supple tannins. The finish is quite grippy, with good length and has a good freshness that makes this a very attractive wine.

Chateau Lilian Ladouys, St Estephe Cru Bourgeois

A beautiful and intense purple colour. The bouquet is very open, dominated by the Merlots from gravels on bedrock clay-limestone soils, exhibits notes of small red fruits and orange peels. After aeration, the wine is on the rise and reveals flavours of cedar and gunflint aromas. The palate is expressive, it has a lovely attack extended by a chewy structure. The finish has some powdered tannins with a lot of mocha and toasted almonds
flavours.

Chateau Charmail, Haut Medoc

This wine has a good, clear dark red colour. There are aromas of blackberry, mature fruits, hints of leather and smoke. The palate has flavours of more dark fruits, blackcurrant, cherries and wild berry fruit. There is also a touch of vanilla. Very well-balanced with fine tannins, good grippy acidity and a long bright finish.

Baron Nathaniel Pauillac AC, Baron Philippe de Rothschild

Baron Nathaniel Pauillac is a dark / crimson red colour. The nose offers ripe blackberry and toasty spice with a touch of minerality. This vintage is Cabernet Sauvignon based, which lends a firm backbone, quality tannins, and a core of blackberry fruit with plum fruit notes. Medium to full bodied and round in the mouth with fine tannins and a good length. This wine is surprisingly accessible now and drinking well, but will improve over 10 years or so.

Chateau Les Hauts Conseillants, Lalande de Pomerol

Chateau Les Hauts Conseillants deep, garnet red colour. The nose has aromas of ripe blackberry and black cherry fruit alongside more savoury, smoky, herbaceous and okay notes. This is rich and medium to full bodied wine on the palate with an abundance of black fruits flavours (blackberry and black currant), some savoury spicy naunces and a hint of vanilla-y oak. It is well structured with chewy tannins and a firm, mineral back bone with lengthy, dry finish.
