Giuaani 7 Year Old Georgian Brandy is a grape brandy produced from Rkatsiteli grapes. Bottled at 40% ABV. Although Georgia is most famous for the traditional Georgian spirit Chacha, a lot of classic, barrel-aged brandy is produced too.
The Giuaani winery is located in the village of Manavi in the heart of the Kakheti wine-growing region of eastern Georgia. The unique soil composition and microclimate provides perfect conditions for grapevine cultivation, especially for Kakhuri Mtsvane grape variety, and for the production of Manavi PDO white dry wines.
The Giuashvili family has been involved in producing wine in the region as far back as the 1800s with the first properly organised wine production beginning in 1894 (when the first “qvevris” were planted in the ground. The family’s modern wine company was founded in 2010 with a brand new winery, equipped with modern equipment and traditional Qvevri, being completed in 2014. The winery now also has a visitors centre and boutique hotel. Since 2022 the Giuaani winery has been run by the youngest member of the family, Maria Giuashvili. Winemaker is Giorgi Jmukhadze.
The winery focuses on the production of indigenous grape varieties including Saperavi, Rkatsiteli, Mtsvane, Kisi and Khikhvi with the more international Cabernet Sauvignon. Red, white and rosé wines are produced both in the modern and traditional style. As well as wines they also produce this brandy and traditional Chacha.
Giuaani 7 Year Old Georgian Brandy is made in much the same way as other brandies. It is made from 100% Rkatsiteli grapes, one of the most famous Georgian white grape varieties. After distillation, the spirit is aged for a minimum of 7 years in oak barrels from the Caucuses.
Bottled at 40% ABV.
Brandy has been crafted in Georgia since the 19th century. Probably the most famous Georgian Brandy is “OC” brandy (OC standing for ochen stari, “very old” in Russian), first produced in 1901 by Davit Sarajishvili. The brandy would go on to be a favourite around the world and garnered an impressive 11 gold medals at exhibitions from 1889 to 1913. Sarajishvili was inspired to produce quality brandy through his friendship with Cognac Camus. He would go on to invite French distiller Antoine Jourde from Cognac to consult and also imported French oak barrels for ageing and paved the way for quality brandy production.
Giuaani 7 Year Old Georgian Brandy is dark amber in colour with a brown hue and has an intense bouquet reminiscent of coffee, caramel and dark chocolate aromas. It is full-bodied with a soft and long finish.
Serve neat in a large brandy balloon or tulip-shaped brandy glass. Can be served with chocolate, fruit and Georgian cheeses.
