Maxime Trijol Pineau des Charentes Blanc 17% 75cl is a traditional French white Pineau des Charentes, a gently fortified aperitif made by blending fresh grape must with young Cognac. Produced by the respected Maxime Trijol family house in the Cognac region, it combines the sweetness of ripe fruit with the warmth and complexity of Cognac.
Expect an invitingly fruity character, with notes of apricot, honey and quince, followed by flavours of candied peach, plum and apricot. Serve chilled as an aperitif or alongside cheese, foie gras and fruit-based desserts. Both white and red Pineau des Charentes are available to buy now at Fareham Wine Cellar.
Pineau des Charentes Blanc is made from white grapes: Ugni Blanc, Folle Blanche, Colombard, Sémillon, Sauvignon and Montils are all permitted grape varieties. The white grapes are gently pressed to preserve the quality of the juice, which is then mixed with Cognac eau-de-vie (young spirit) and aged for at least one year. This addition halts fermentation, leaving natural sweetness in the wine and resulting in a fortified wine with an alcohol content between 16% and 22%. The wine must then be aged for a minimum of 14 months in oak barrels.
This traditional method produces a mellow, aromatic drink that sits between a sweet wine and a spirit-based aperitif. At 17% ABV, Maxime Trijol Pineau des Charentes Blanc offers a rounded, fruit-led style that is delicious served well chilled.
Founded in 1859, Cognac Maxime Trijol remains one of the few true family-owned powerhouse producers in the heart of the Cognac region. The family originally settled as vine growers and distillers in St Martial-sur-Né, installing their very first copper still in November of that year. Over generations, they honed their craft, officially becoming professional distillers in 1962.
Today, Maxime Trijol boasts twenty-two 2,500-litre traditional Charentais pot stills, making them one of the largest independent distillers in Cognac. Unusually for the region, Trijol controls every step of the creation process from cultivating their own vineyards to distillation, long barrel-ageing, and bottling under their watchful eye.
Fifth-generation head Jean-Jacques Trijol brings an artist’s touch to the distillery, meticulously adapting distillation and blending techniques to suit the nuances of every single harvest. Joined in 2013 by his daughters, Anne-Sophie and Pauline, the sixth generation now leads the house forward, combining deep-seated tradition with impeccable quality control. They make some fantastic Cognacs, including some great Grande Champagne VSOP and XO.

Pineau des Charentes is a fortified wine-based aperitif made by blending grape must with Cognac eau-de-vie. It is sweeter and stronger than an ordinary table wine, but it is not simply a liqueur or a bottle of Cognac.
