Pusser’s 15 Year Old Rum is the oldest and most refined expression in the iconic Pusser’s Rum lineup. The blend was reformulated in 2018 and, since then, it has been 100% Guyanese rum distilled at Demerara Distillers Ltd. in Guyana. A true-aged sipping rum with historic navy roots.

The previous bottling of Pusser’s 15 Year Old Rum was a blend of Guyanese and Trinidadian rums; the current bottling is 100% Guyanese rum and has a much more complex, drier and sophisticated profile.
This Pusser’s 15 year old rum differs significantly from the Blue Label and Gunpowder Proof rums. Not only is it aged for much longer (Pusser’s Blue Label and Gunpowder Proof rums are bottled at three years old), but it’s also distilled using different stills – the blend comprises approximately 50% rum from old wooden-sided stills, with the rest from column stills.
A true-aged sipping rum with historic navy roots. 100% natural, using no artificial colours or flavourings, and is gluten-free. It is bottled at 40% ABV
The historic double wooden-sided pot stills, which have been in production since 1732, were originally located at the Port Mourant distillery. Alongside the Port Mourant double-sided pot still, Demerara Distillers also operates the world’s only other two wooden-sided stills: a Versailles wooden pot still and an Enmore wooden Coffey still. The old Greenheart staves of the historic Port Mourant stills provide flavour compounds to this aged Guyanese rum that cannot be replicated in modern metal stills.
Pusser’s 15 Year Rum offers a softer, smoother, and more refined profile compared to the brand’s younger rums. This bottling represents a sophisticated evolution from its predecessor, reducing sweetness and fruitiness for a more mature character. Rum aficionados have likened it to a fine brandy, praising its full, rich flavour and exceptional smoothness – qualities that led Forbes magazine to call it the “Single Malt of Rum.” It is certainly one of the best Demerara rums.
Pusser’s Rum is produced by Demerara Distillers Ltd. in Guyana and is named after the Royal Navy slang for a purser, a ship’s supply officer. For over 300 years, Royal Navy sailors received a daily rum ration, or “tot,” a cherished comfort during long months away from home. The rum ration was abolished on July 31, 1970 (“The Black Day”), and the Pusser’s Rum name remained dormant until 1979, when entrepreneur Charles Tobias sought to revive the tradition.
Tobias obtained the rights and blending information from the Admiralty, established Pusser’s Rum Ltd. on Tortola in 1980, and began selling Pusser’s Rum to the public for the first time. In return, the Royal Navy Sailors’ Fund, a naval charity commonly known as the Tot Fund, receives a donation from the sale of each bottle of British Navy Pusser’s Rum.
Appearance: A lustrous dark amber colour
Nose: Rich and inviting, with hints of Demerara sugar and molasses, dried figs, raisins and a whisper of tropical fruit. There are island spices, think clove and allspice, which mingle with caramel and butterscotch aromas.
Palate: Full-bodied and velvety with hints of caramelised fruit and toasted oak. There are subtle hints of dark honey and nutmeg spice.
Finish: Warm, smooth and long with spiced vanilla, a touch of citrus peel and soft, oaky nuances. Lingering finish.
Best served neat.
Is it 100% Guyanese?
Yes. Since 2018, it has been fully Guyanese from Demerara Distillers, drier and more sophisticated than the prior blend.
Is Pusser’s 15 Year Old Rum sweet, or does it have added sugar?
Pusser’s 15 is drier, woodier, and less sweet than its predecessor or heavily sugared rums like some El Dorado expressions.
How should I drink Pusser’s 15 Year Old Rum?
Best enjoyed neat. It can also be served over ice. Try with some good dark chocolate.
How old is Pusser’s 15 Year Old Rum?
As a “true-aged” rather than a solera rum, the minimum age of the rum is at least 15 years old.
Why is it sometimes called “Nelson’s Blood”?
This is an old nickname for Pusser’s rum and refers to the story that Admiral Nelson’s body was preserved in a cask of rum after his death at the Battle of Trafalgar. However, this is not true; it was, in fact, preserved in brandy.
