About Croft 2024 Vintage Port

Croft 2024 Vintage Port is a superb expression of one of the oldest and most distinguished names in the Port trade. Founded in 1588, Croft has built an international reputation for producing Vintage Ports of exceptional elegance, aromatic purity and silky texture, offering a style that is often more approachable in youth while still possessing outstanding ageing potential. 1600 9-litre cases produced.

“I am excited to declare our release of a limited amount of classic Croft 2024 Vintage. Quinta da Roêda produced wines in 2024 that clearly stood out for their incredible depth and complexity. The Croft house style that I enjoy so much is clearly present in this wine, with its firm but well-integrated tannin, berry flavours and purity of fruit. This wine will shine for many decades to come but can be enjoyed on release to experience the delicious fresh fruit flavours before they evolve in the cellar.” Adrian Bridge, Managing Director.

Crafted from the finest fruit grown on Croft’s renowned Douro estates, including the iconic Quinta da Roêda, Croft 2024 captures the beauty of the vintage with remarkable precision. Traditional foot treading in granite lagares and meticulous vineyard selection create a Vintage Port that combines rich fruit concentration with freshness and finesse.

Quinta da Roêda, One of the Finest Estates in the Douro Valley

Quinta da Roêda sweeps across the terraced north bank of the Douro just upstream from Pinhão, long regarded as one of the valley’s finest estates. The 19th-century poet Veiga Cabral described it as “the diamond set in the golden ring of Portugal.” Acquired by Croft in 1889 and now part of The Fladgate Partnership, the estate has seen continued investment, including the reintroduction of traditional granite lagares for foot treading.

Roêda is the heart of Croft’s distinctive house style — scented, exotic, and opulently fruited — and for the 2024 vintage, every component of the blend comes from the estate’s own vineyards, including fruit from its old vine terraces. The name itself is said to derive from the sound of the Douro’s rapids as they once rushed over the boulder-strewn riverbed below.

What Is Vintage Port?

Vintage Port is produced only in truly outstanding years – typically just three or four times per decade. Following the harvest, the wines with Vintage potential are placed into oak barrels known as “pipes.” Around eighteen months later, a meticulous series of tastings takes place to carefully determine which wines from which vineyards deserve a place in the final blend. Once the ideal combination is achieved, the wine is bottled with no filtration at all, roughly 24 months after the harvest. From there, Vintage Port must be aged for ten to twenty years in cool, dark cellars, slowly developing into the remarkable style of a great wine. Bottles should always be stored on their side. As Vintage Port matures, it forms a heavy sediment, called a “crust”, and should be decanted before serving.

Whether you are adding to a fine wine collection, celebrating a special occasion or searching for the perfect gift, Croft 2024 Vintage Port is an outstanding example of classic Douro winemaking. Order online today from Fareham Wine Cellar and discover one of the Douro Valley’s most elegant and historic Vintage Ports.
