Chateau Soutard is a St Emilion Grand Cru Classé which was founded in 1775. It has been owned by the de Ligneris family since 1811. Chateau Soutard is located in the north of the St Emilion plateau.
In 2004, whilst there were a lot of wrangling concerning the St Emilion classification, Chateau Soutard did not register the main wine as a Grand Cru (they did not release a second wine either). Instead they have released just one wine – Les Jardins de Soutards which is, in effect, a St Emilion Grand Cru by any other name.
Les Jardins de Soutard 2004 is a blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc with a very elegant style, along with a pleasant and long finish. A very well-balanced and traditional style St Emilion.
