Description

Tommasi Arele is red wine from the Veneto region bottled as an Trevenezie IGT (Indicazione Geografica Tipica). Trevenezie IGT became the new name for the old Della Venezie IGT in 2017 (the Della Venezie IGT was established in 1995).

Tommasi Family Estates was founded in 1902 by Giacomo Tommasi and the estate is now the largest family-owned estate in Valpolicella Classica. The family now own 105 hectares of vineyards in some of the prime hillside sites in the region and a further 15 hectares in Lugana. The winery and headquarters are located at Pedemonte in the centre of the Classico wine-growing region and the estate is managed by the fourth generation of the Tommasi family with 6 family members working together. An attentive ear to change, respect of place, and high-quality production are three driving factors
that put Tommasi among Italy’s leading producers.

The grapes for Tommasi Arele are sourced from hillside vineyards located in the Valpolicella Classico area. Arele is the name of wooden trays in which grapes are dried during the Appasimento process and 30% of the grapes for this wine are dried in such wooden trays for 60 days prior to fermentation. The grapes are fermented at 26-28°C in stainless steel tanks for seven days. After fermentation, the wine is matured for 12 months in 65 hectolitre Slavonian oak casks and 2 months in French oak tonneaux before bottling.

The blend of grapes is 60% Corvina, 30% Rondinella, 5% Oseleta and 5% Merlot.

Tasting Notes

Tommasi Arele is a ruby red colour and has perfumes of crushed black raspberry, black cherry, plum compote, dried herbs and mulled spice, which follow on to the palate. A concentrated and supple wine with black cherry and plum flavours and a long, refined finish.

Food Pairing

Tommasi Arele is a excellent food / wine match with pasta, pork, red meats and game. Also serve with cheese.
