Umani Ronchi Casal di Serra Verdicchio Dei Castelli Di Jesi is a white wine from the Marche region of Italy made with 100% Verdicchio grapes. This wine has intense wild flower and yellow fruit aromas with a rich, velvety palate that ends with a dry, persistent fruity finish. Available to buy now at Fareham Wine Cellar.
Umani Ronchi Casal di Serra Verdicchio Dei Castelli Di Jesi was created in the 1980s by selecting the best grapes grown in the Montecarotto vineyard, and later enriched with grapes from another three plots situated in the most suitable areas for cultivating Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi. Ripeness is ensured by harvesting slightly later than usual, and yields are kept very low (80/90 hundredweight/hectare, less than half the usual for Verdicchio).
Umani Ronchi Casal di Serra Verdicchio Dei Castelli Di Jesi is a vegetarian and vegan-friendly wine.
Umani Ronchi owns 110 hectares in the Verdicchio Classico area, 60 hectares in the Rosso Conero, and 30 in Abruzzi. This part of Italy is framed by glorious hills that meet the waters of the Adriatic Sea. Umani Ronchi prides itself as the leading exponent of the two major wines of the Marche, Verdicchio and Rosso Conero, as well as being one of the principal producers of wines from the neighbouring Abruzzi region.
Umani Ronchi was founded by Gino Umani Ronchi in the 1950s in Cupramontana, in the heart of the Verdicchio Classico production zone. Shortly afterwards, the company was taken over by the Bianchi-Bernetti family, who expanded operations and moved the headquarters to Osimo in the Rosso Conero wine-growing region of Marche. The Marche region of Italy is framed by glorious hills that meet the waters of the Adriatic Sea, with a favourable climate and soil and is a region that the producer Umani Ronchi has really made famous. It is situated about two-thirds of the way up the east coast of Italy.
Massimo Bernetti’s son Michele joined the firm in the 1990s. He was instrumental in partnering up with Giacomo Tachis, a skilled winemaker known for celebrated wines like the Solaia and Sassicaia, in the mid 1990s.
In 2020, Umani Ronchi was ranked as one of Wine Spectator’s 34 Best Wineries of Italy.
Casal di Serra is ideal with fish dishes, oven-cooked or grilled, roast white meat and fresh cheeses.
The name “Verdicchio” is derived from the Italian word “verde,” meaning green, which refers to the greenish hue that the grape berries take on when they reach full ripeness. This grape variety has a long history in the Marche region, with evidence suggesting that it has been cultivated there since at least the 14th century. It is one of the most important and widely planted grape varieties in he central region of Italy.
