Description

Torres Imperial 20 Hors d’Age Brandy is a Spanish Brandy distilled and produced by Miguel Torres. It is made from the local Catalan grape variety Parellada and Ugni Blanc, originally from France.

Torres has been making Spanish brandy since 1928. During the 1960s, Miguel A. Torres began planting foreign
varieties in his vineyards and is credited with creating the first Spanish brandy to be made with the French Grape, Ugni Blanc. Ugni Blanc is probably most famously grown and used in the production of Cognac in France. As with Cognac, Armagnac and other grape brandies, a white wine is first produced. In this case it is a blend of Ugni Blanc and the local grape variety, Parellada grown on the high slopes of the Upper Penedès . The wine then undergoes a double distillation on copper pot stills, followed by the careful selection of the finest and most aromatic fractions which are then aged in French, Limousin oak barrels.

Unlike Brandy de Jerez, which undergoes a fractional ageing in a solera system, Torres Imperial 20 Hors d’Age Brandy is a “statically aged” brandy, i.e. it is simply aged in barrels for 20 years prior to bottling. New oak is used during the first years of maturation before the brandy is transferred to older casks to avoid the excessive aromatic influence of the new wood.

In 2018 Torres Imperial 20 Hors d’Age Brandy was given a makeover and is now presented in a smart new bottle inspired by a decanter originally owned by Juan Torres Casals, the second generation of the Torres family, who made the first Torres brandy in 1928. The original is a Torres family heirloom which survives to this day, handed down through generations.

Chosen for several years as the Best Brandy in the World at contests like the International Wine & Spirit Competition.
