Whether you’re looking for a half-bottle of Pomerol, a premium wine for a special meal, or simply prefer the flexibility of 37.5cl bottles, Château Bonalgue delivers the quality expected from one of Bordeaux’s finest appellations.
The exceptional terroir of Château Bonalgue is a masterclass in the unique geography of Pomerol. Spanning a boutique 7.55 hectares, the estate’s vineyard is planted mainly with Merlot, with some Cabernet Franc, with vines averaging 25 years of age.
Here, the vines thrive on a precise blend of gravel and sandy-clay topsoils, sitting directly atop a legendary subsoil of alios—the famous iron-ore band that lends Pomerol its distinctive, sought-after character. These heat-retaining soils act as natural radiators, encouraging early, remarkably even ripening to bring the fruit to absolute, flawless maturity year after year.
Steeped in history, Château Bonalgue is a jewel in the heart of Bordeaux’s prestigious Pomerol appellation. The estate’s viticultural roots run deep, with the first archive references to the “Graves de Bonalgue” vineyards dating back to the French Revolution. The château itself was born in the early 19th century when Captain Rabion, a veteran of Napoleon’s Grand Army, inherited the land, built a handsome residence to house his regimental arms, and planted the magnificent Lebanese cedar trees that still grace the grounds today.
In 1926, the property was acquired by the Bourotte family, who continue to safeguard and champion its exceptional terroir today. Under their stewardship, the vineyard has been maintained in peak condition, seamlessly combining modern, refined winemaking techniques with a deep respect for tradition.
The family’s Right Bank pedigree extends well beyond Bonalgue; their impressive portfolio also includes Clos du Clocher and Château Monregard La Croix in Pomerol, Château Les Hauts-Conseillants in Lalande-de-Pomerol, and Château du Courlat in Lussac-Saint-Émilion.
Also available in 75cl bottles and larger formats.

Deep ruby with purple highlights, Château Bonalgue 2023 opens with expressive aromas of black cherry, ripe plum, blackberry and cassis, layered with elegant notes of violet, cedar, cocoa, graphite and subtle spice.
The palate is rich yet beautifully balanced, combining concentrated black fruit with velvety tannins, fresh acidity and the characteristic silky texture that defines great Pomerol. Gentle oak integration adds complexity without masking the purity of the fruit, leading to a long, refined finish.

Yes. The 2023 vintage is already showing attractive fruit and freshness, although it will continue to evolve over the next 8 to 15 years with careful cellaring.
Yes. Because of the higher ratio of oxygen to wine, half bottles generally develop more quickly than standard bottles, making them an excellent choice for enjoying younger fine wines sooner.
